For those users who behave well on Youtube, the video sharing website(read: follow Youtube Community Guidelines and observe copyright rules), there is good news. Youtube has started to remove upload limits for such well behaved users , upload limits on Youtube earlier restricted uploaded videos to be of maximum 15 minutes.
Just click the “Upload” button at the top of the site to see if your account qualifies. And remember, if you’re uploading a video that was previously rejected for being too long, go into “My Videos” and delete the old video before uploading it again.
If you are one of the lucky user, you will be able to upload videos of any time limit. There is literally no time limit and videos can even go into hours and hours. As per Youtube, this has been possible because of the advancements in Content-Id system, which is essentially advanced set of copyright policies and content management tools to give rights holders control of their content.
This launch has been made possible in part by the continued advances in our state-of-the-art Content ID system, as well as our other powerful tools for copyright owners. Over 1000 global partners use Content ID to manage their content on YouTube, including every major U.S. movie studio and music label. We remain as dedicated as ever to building and improving the most sophisticated technology in the world to help copyright owners protect their rights.
Video Uploads of more than 15 minutes were earlier allowed for Youtube Partners.
My personal take – This is an excellent move by Youtube. Allowing users to upload videos which are more than 15 minutes has always been a valid need. Now that it has finally arrived, shall we assume that costs of distributing videos is indeed coming down?
By the way, one of the best ways of distributing your videos is through TubeMogul.
